This school holiday period, both a two-day senior AFL specialist skills clinic will be running out of the Melbourne Girls Grammar Artemis Centre.
About the AFL Academy Intensive: Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 July, 2pm-5pm.
This academy style two-day specialist program welcomes girls aged 13-18 years who are looking to take their AFL skills to the next level.
There is no denying that the AFLW has triggered a powerhouse movement of opportunity and participation for young girls and women in sport. With 30% of all AFL players being female, the crowds, social media activity and broadcasting success of the AFLW has shed light on what we all know to be true…women have been ‘kicking goals’ in sport for a long time. Campaigns such as @thisgirlcanvic and @changeourgame add to the advocacy, investment and rise in opportunity for girls and women. Our collective responsibility is to turn our attention to ensuring that young girls benefit from quality coaching, learning experiences, sequential skill and athletic development so that they can enjoy the game and build their confidence and resilience.
Great skills make great players! Girls Footy Australia have put together a very targeted program which aims to build and perfect fundamental skills and techniques, learn key offensive and defensive strategies, and to apply these skill transitions within a game sense approach.
Coached by current AFLW players and coaches, who live and breathe footy! These elite professionals provide invaluable insight and guidance to the game we all love, driven to ensure each training session is filled with fun and excitement as well as being competitive and educational so that every girl develops their football ability to its highest level.
